No one likes being used, but everyone likes being useful. Therein lies the balancing act between taking opportunity and taking advantage. Between suckering and becoming one of The Suckered.
Oku Imahara
Oku is a programmer, yearning for more. He spends his days at the mercy of his managers at Octal Industries, who take advantage of his multi-faceted nature. In turn, he learns all he can about big business, hoping to realize his dream of writing software like poetry. Is he handy enough to reach for his dreams, or will he become one of The Suckered?
Oku’s voice is Amerika Sans.
Juniper Cypress
What does a girl with all the ambition in the world, but none of the talent, do with her life? In the case of Juniper Cypress, you join Human Resources at the largest software development company in the country. Perhaps an uninspired choice, but she doesn’t have much for talent. One thing she is good at is reading people, and Oku is an encyclopedia. Will Juniper get a chance to be a part of something ambitious? Will she finally find happiness in Octal Industries? Or is she one of The Suckered?
Juniper’s voice is Comfortaa.
Joyce
She is a faceless voice, wizened by years of smoking and drinking, baffled by technology, and too tired to pretend to care anymore. Joyce serves as the sole remaining employee present at the birth of Octal Industries, and she may very well remain there until after its death. Is she a victim of tradition, kept tucked away from the eyes of the employees, allowed employment simply because she’s always been there? Or is her memory as long as her employment history? Not even a hundred years war could help decide which of these two is The Suckered.
Joyce’s voice is Berylium.
Andrew Hoek
If Andrew’s name sounds familiar, it’s because a branch of his family tree founded Hoek Design Naval Architects in The Netherlands, world renowned for their yachts. Andrew Hoek, however, is world renowned for absolutely nothing. Since joining the team at Octal Industries, he has aspired for nothing greater than middle management, a feat which he is projected to attain in six short months. He performs the exact duties of his job, and he maintains amiable relations with his colleagues and coworkers. A handwritten note in his file reads, “Won’t rock the boat,” a sentiment sure to please his Dutch relatives. Andrew is definitely one of The Suckered, but he’s content with that.
Other Suckers
