Wow. Who would have thought that a month’s worth of days could transpire so quickly. You know what happened? I think we were counting eight day weeks instead of seven day weeks.

It was bound to happen. Hell, it happened to The Beatles.

Also, in the course of that month, a monumental thing happened:- we moved. We haven’t departed the Queen City; on the contrary, we’ve nestled ourselves deeper within her bosom. And as much as that sentence inspires its own fanfic-slash-civil-erotica comic strip, this post is about The Suckered (which is less of a slash and more of a squiggle).

We shall return. We haven’t forgotten our dears, and I haven’t forgotten my boast, rodomontade and cock-a-hoop though it was.

Eight Days A Week…

As the writer of The Suckered, let me say this: this is just Episode 001. Remember Star Wars: Episode I? Yeah, it sucked, but it helped build a foundation of characters and mythology (eh, kinda). That’s what we’re doing here. We’re trying to build (and gradually reveal) an entire world within which Oku and Juniper (and others) live and mostly work. So, if you felt disappointed in reading episode one, that’s okay. We just ask that you keep an open mind (or eight) when we release upcoming episode.

We promise that Oku, Juniper, and everyone at Octal Industries will shortly own a small piece of your heart. Subscribe to the feed, and forget about us. Come EPISODE 002, we’ll be that happy surprise you forgot you left yourself.

It’s a question you’ll read often. At first it felt clever, two-toned and brilliant. Now, I’m not so sure. You’ll find out what I mean in a minute.

This whole thing started with a trip to the Library. Holli wanted to draw some manga, and I couldn’t pass up a trip to the Library. We felt reasonably confident that being able to find manga to read meant we could find books about drawing manga. As it turned out, we were right. With an armful of books, we made our way home. Holli started to draw, and I started to dream.

Suddenly, impetuously, we made the decision to start an online comic. We had no story, no setting, and no plot. All we had was a monocle-wearing octopus who was a programmer and a mostly inappropriate animated TV script about two obscure ocean inhabitants discussing the frustrations of romance. Almost none of the elements that started us on this path made it into this comic, except the programming octopus.

We hope to update monthly. This is all we can dare to promise, since neither of us has ever done this before, and we’re really not sure if we can devise a method for getting these out sooner than that. We aim to publish on the eighth of the month, and the publications will be about eight pages in length each. We’ll do our best, within those eight pages, to weave an interesting, funny, and layered tale for your enjoyment.

What do a monocle-wearing octopus and two obscure ocean inhabitants have to do with this online comic? Can two inexperienced people really pull off an online comic for any reasonable amount of time? What does the title mean? Just what is this comic all about?

Just who is The Suckered?

The answer is coming soon.
